On October 30 local time, the U.S. guided missile destroyer USS Gravely ended its exercise and left Trinidad and Tobago. 300 U.S. soldiers on board the Gravely participated in the exercise.
The U.S. military exercise triggered a strong protest from Venezuela. The Venezuelan government issued a communique on the 26th, condemning the United States' practice of holding joint military exercises in the waters near Venezuela. The communique said that the dangerous "military exercises" held by the U.S. Southern Command constituted a hostile provocation against Venezuela and posed a serious threat to peace in the Caribbean.
The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago announced on 23rd that the "Gravely" will land in the port of Spain from 26 to 30 and conduct joint military exercises in waters near Venezuela.
Trinidad and Tobago are not far from Venezuela.
