About 3 million will lose food aid, and New York State declares a state of emergency

On October 30, local time, New York Governor Casey Hochur declared a state of emergency in New York and allocated $65 million for emergency food relief in the state.

He said the move would help about 3 million New Yorkers who lost food assistance due to the end of the federal government’s “supplemental nutritional assistance program.”

On October 25, local time, the U.S. Department of Agriculture posted a notice on its website stating that the U.S. federal government’s “supplementary nutritional assistance program” would end on November 1.
