On October 30, local time, the Brazilian government announced a new law, signed by Brazilian President Lula, aimed at strengthening the fight against organized crime.
The new law revises the relevant provisions of the Criminal Code and the Organized Crime Law of the country, adding crimes such as “members of hired criminal organizations committing crimes” and “impeding law enforcement actions against organized crime” and heightening the relevant penalties.
Brazilian police launched operations against the gang's "Red Command" on the 28th in the communities of Alemão and Peña in the northern district of Shibei District of Rio, dispatching multiple helicopters and armored vehicles. On the 29th, Brazilian President Lula said that organized crime must not be tolerated to continue to destroy families, oppress residents, and spread drugs and violence in cities.
