Local time on October 29,Malawi's parliament elects Samir Suleiman, a member of the ruling * Progressive Party, as its new speaker。
A total of 220 lawmakers attended the meeting on the same day, of which 219 voted and one abstained.
Suleiman was nominated by the leader of the Democratic Progressive Party, President Mutharika of Malawi, who eventually defeated opposition Malavian Congress Party candidate Peter Dingba with 134 votes, who won 85 votes.
The day's election also elected the first deputy speaker and the second deputy speaker at the same time. After the election, Suleiman was sworn in and formally performed his duties as Speaker.
