Brazilian President signs new law to strengthen fight against organized crime

On October 30, local time, the Brazilian government announced a new law, signed by Brazilian President Lula, aimed at strengthening the fight against organized crime.

The new law revises the relevant provisions of the Criminal Code and the Organized Crime Law of the country, adding crimes such as “members of hired criminal organizations committing crimes” and “impeding law enforcement actions against organized crime” and heightening the relevant penalties.

On the 28th, Brazilian police launched an operation against the gang "Red Command" in the two communities of Alemão and Peña in the northern district of Rio, and dispatched several helicopters and armored vehicles. On the 29th, Brazilian President Lula said that organized crime must not be tolerated to continue to destroy families, oppress residents and spread drugs and violence in cities.
