The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced on October 30 local time that it would start the first phase of the upgrade of the Israeli-Jordanian border security wall in the next few weeks, with a construction length of about 40 kilometers.

According to the Israeli Defense Ministry,The entire project will cover the 425-kilometer border between Israel and Jordan, stretching north of Eilat through the West Bank to the south of the Golan Heights.The total investment is expected to be approximately 5.5 billion new shekels (about $1.7 billion).

Israel said its eastern border with Jordan has long faced the threat of weapons smuggling. Compared with Israel's borders with Egypt, Lebanon and Syria, the Israeli-Jordanian border has relatively open terrain, relatively weak protective facilities, and limited patrol coverage, making it one of the main channels for smuggling activities.
