On October 29 local time, Brazilian President Lula released a message through social media saying thatWe must never tolerate that organized crime continues to destroy families, oppress residents, and spread drugs and violence in cities.¡£Lula also said coordinated action was needed to ensure the safety of police and the public while fighting drug cartels.

The head of the Rio State Police said that a total of 119 people died in the operation on the 28th, including 115 suspects and 4 policemen. Another source said that the operation killed 132 people.

Brazilian Minister of Justice and Public Security lewandowski said on the 29th that all the data were not available at present, and that he would go to Rio to learn about the situation.

Police launched several helicopters and armoured vehicles in two communities in the northern districts of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Alamein and Penya, targeting the Red Command, with the Alamein and Penya communities experiencing a long-term drug outbreak and illicit weapons trafficking as one of the main bases of the Red Command, which poses a serious threat to the security situation in Rio de Janeiro and even across Brazil.
