GM will assess the production needed and recall approximately 1,200 employees when the factory returns to one-day operation in January next year, with the remaining 2,200 taking unlimited unpaid leave.

In addition, GM laid off 1400 people at its Ultium battery plant in Warren, Ohio, and 710 people in Spring Hill, Tennessee. A company spokesperson said that about 850 people at the Ohio factory are expected to return to work in May next year, and 550 people are considering being terminated indefinitely. He said Tennessee's abolition was temporary.
