On October 29, local time, UN Secretary-General Guterres posted on social media calling for an immediate end to the siege of the city of Fashir, the capital of northern Darfur, in western Sudan.Urges all parties to the conflict to cease hostilities and ensure safe, rapid and unimpeded access to humanitarian assistance for all civilians¡£

Guterres said he was deeply concerned about the recent escalation of the conflict in Fashir, where hundreds of thousands of local civilians have been besieged by rapid support forces for about 18 months.

The Sudanese government said earlier on the 29th that since the Rapid Support Forces entered El Fasher on the 26th, more than 2,000 civilians have been killed in the city.

Since May 2024, rapid support forces have been under siege of El Fasher for a long time. On the 26th of this month, the Rapid Support Force announced complete control of El Fasher.

On April 15, 2023, an armed conflict broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Force in the capital Khartoum, and the fighting subsequently spread to other areas.
