On October 29 local time, the well-known pilot Buzz Aldrin announced sad news on social media that his wife Anca Faur passed away at the age of 66.
The statement reads: “Astronaut Buzz Aldrin’s wife, Dr. Anka Aldrin, passed away peacefully last night in the company of her husband and son, Vladimir Gantz.”“Mrs. Aldrin is an outstanding chemical engineer with a PhD degree from the University of Pittsburgh, who served as the financial director of the California Hydrogen Commercial Commission and executive vice president of the Buzz Aldrin Enterprise LLC.”
Aldrin, now 95, also delivered a short personal eulogy in memory of his late wife. "I was very lucky to have found and married the love of my life. She made everything we did together filled with joy. I will miss her deeply."
Fore is Aldrin's fourth wife. They met at the space research facility many years ago, and then tied the knot on January 20, 2023, in a small private wedding in California. The wedding day coincided with the famous astronaut's 93rd birthday.
Aldrin never hid his deep affection for his wife, saying that she is not only a partner in life, but also a right-hand man at work. "She is the love of my life, and we are inseparable, from eating together and planning projects to spending time with family and celebrating milestones, such as the 55th anniversary of Apollo 11's moon landing."
For this reason, the American media also called them "the silver-haired love model of the scientific community", a combination of reason and romance.
Aldrin's life trajectory is almost a shadow of American space history. In 1969, he and Neil Armstrong landed on the moon and became the second astronaut in human history to step on the moon. At that moment, he said on the radio: "Beautiful wilderness", describing the moon's silence and vastness, also speaks of the loneliness of human exploration.
In the late years, Aldrinined public attention by guest performances in popular dramas such as The Big Bang, The Simpsons and I'm a Comedian. Even one of the main characters in Toy Story, Buzz Lightyear, was named in honour of him.
Although Aldrin's name is enough to go down in history, he has experienced darkness in his own life and struggled with depression and alcoholism. Fortunately, he has been drinking and detoxification for more than 40 years now.
Aldrin has also written several books, but in recent years, he has been as obsessed with "colonizing Mars" as Elon Musk. He has publicly stated that the "Great Migration" is not only to explore the universe, but also for the survival of mankind.
After the death of "the love of life", Aldrin had to face the rest of his life alone, although this time he did not need oxygen tanks and spacecraft, but obviously only memory and thought accompanying life was very difficult.
