According to a report by Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao on the 27th, a 20-year-old woman was sentenced by a Singapore court to 12 months suspended sentence and must complete 60 hours of community service for falsely claiming that she was raped by a male netizen.
Earlier, the defendant had admitted to both false confession and violation of the Law on Prevention of Harassment. The District Court of Singapore ruled on October 27 that she had to stay in her home every night from 10 a.m. to 6 a.m. the following day during the suspension surveillance period, and that her parents had to sign a bail of 5,000 yuan (USD), to ensure that she complied with the conditions of the bail and behaved well.
The case showed that the defendant met a 43-year-old man through an online dating platform. The two chatted on communication software and met on March 18. The man agreed to pay her 200 yuan. On the night of the crime, the two men first went to the bar to drink alcohol and then went to the hotel room. The defendant agreed to have sexual relations with the other party, but later asked the man to pay 1200 yuan. The man refused and was only willing to pay 500 yuan. The defendant refused to give in, insulted the man many times, and threatened to report to the police that he had been raped. She finally really called the police, and after calling the police, sent a message to the man saying,"You're finished."
After police arrived at the hotel, she claimed to have been raped while intoxicated. However, after checking the CCTV video of the hotel, the police found that its statement was inconsistent with the facts. The defendant admitted at 2: 10 a.m. the next day that she called the police because the man refused to pay the 1,200 yuan she asked for.
During the trial, the defensive lawyer on behalf of the defendant said that the defendant had learned a profound lesson from the case, believing that suspension surveillance was sufficient to allow her to reflect and bear the consequences.
