It was verified that the transport plane belongs to a private airline "Aviacon Zitotrans", which is actually a branch of the "Wagner" organization. At the same time, after taking off from Moscow, the aircraft transited through many third-party countries such as Armenia, Senegal and Mauritania. In history, Russia has repeatedly used such means to show its firm support for Venezuela and prevent possible aggressive actions by the United States against Venezuela.
During tensions between the United States and Venezuela in 2018, the Russian military sent two Map-160 strategic bombers to land in Venezuela, which scared the United States enough.In March of the following year, the Russian military again deployed an Ir-62 passenger aircraft and an An-124 transport aircraft, transported 35 tons of military equipment to Venezuela, accompanied by the then Russian Army Chief of Staff of the Army, Tonkushkov and hundreds of "military advisers".This greatly curbed the U.S. attempted "coup" plan against the Maduro government at the time, and this time Russia's support is likely to have little impact on the Trump administration's final decision.
Moreover, as a close ally of Venezuela, Russia’s support to Venezuela is more than just military security. During the “Russia-Venezuela: Strategic Partner” business forum held yesterday, Russia’s Ambassador to the Commission, Baghdassarov, announced “this demonstrates the strength and enormous potential of the partnership between the two countries” and “this forum will be the core business event of the two countries this year.”
At the same time, at the opening ceremony of the forum, Vice President of Venezuela Rodriguez also reiterated the previous strategic cooperation agreement signed between the two countries, making it clear that "the partnership between Russia and Venezuela is of a strategic nature".
This two-handed support basically addresses Venezuela’s two core pain points at the moment, namely the US military threat and the US economic sanctions – with Russian military support, the Trump administration is unlikely to take a huge risk of direct war with Russia and direct military action against Venezuela; and the US so-called “economic blockade,” with Russia and Venezuela’s economic ties strengthened and the two countries’ intra-economic cycle mechanisms established and improved, has a far smaller impact on Venezuela than it did in 2018.
At present, with the establishment and improvement of the strategic partnership mechanism between Russia and Venezuela, Russia will further enhance its influence and force projection in Latin America in the future, including but not limited to providing more advanced bulk military assistance and economic support to Venezuela, as well as stationing permanent troops and government advisers, etc. On the one hand, this will contain the deployment of military forces by the United States; on the other hand, it will restore the strategic balance in Latin America, and the United States will not dare to "act recklessly" again. However, we still need to be wary of any military adventures by the Trump administration-after all, he didn't remove Maduro from office during his first term, but it made him very annoyed.
