On the 28th local time, the United Nations General Assembly held a meeting to discuss and demand that the United States end its economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba. Fu Cong, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, said,The blockade imposed by a very small number of countries against Cuba has caused severe suffering to the Cuban people. It has been unanimously condemned and opposed by the international community and should be completely lifted immediately.

China stated that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations. Peace, development, cooperation and win-win are the themes of the times, but the Cold War mentality and hegemonism still exist, and the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is seriously lagging behind.China criticizes a few Western countries for pursuing unilateralism, protectionism and bullying policies, refusing to fulfill their development assistance commitments, and long-term imposition of illegal unilateral sanctions on Cuba, seriously violates the United Nations Charter and international law, and undermines the Cuban people's rights to survival and development.

China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations:According to relevant statistics, the brutal blockade by the United States for more than 60 years has caused a total of more than US$170 billion in losses to Cuba, covering almost all areas of people's livelihood such as fuel, food, daily necessities, and medicine, causing severe disasters to the Cuban people. From March 2024 to February 2025 alone, losses of US$7.6 billion were caused, an increase of 49% over the previous year, equivalent to approximately 4.7 years of food rations for the entire Cuban people. These facts and figures are shocking and have been unanimously condemned and resolutely opposed by the international community.

China reiterates that it firmly upholds multilateralism and the international system with the United Nations at its core and resolutely opposes hegemonism. China highly appreciates Cuba's contribution in safeguarding international fairness and justice and promoting global cooperation, and is willing to further deepen cooperation in various fields. China once again strongly urges the United States to immediately and completely lift its economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba, remove Cuba from the list of so-called "countries supporting terrorism", and not continue to deviate from the international community and the conscience of mankind.

According to the meeting schedule, on October 29, the United Nations General Assembly will vote for the 33rd time on lifting the U.S. blockade against Cuba. Since 1992, the UN General Assembly has voted every year on a resolution proposed by Cuba calling on the United States to lift the blockade. The relevant resolution has always received overwhelming support from the international community.
