The General Consulate in Sapporo once again reminded citizens of the territory to be vigilant about the "bear disappearance" and strengthen security precautions

Recently, there have been frequent incidents of wild bear attacks in Japan. According to incomplete statistics, from October to 26, 78 people have been killed or injured by wild bear attacks, including Hokkaido, Aomori Prefecture, Akita Prefecture and Iwate Prefecture in our prefecture. According to reports, more recent attacks have occurred in residential areas, and some people were even attacked while walking their dogs near their homes in the early morning. The Consulate General in Sapporo reminds China compatriots and tourists in the consular area to pay attention to information related to "bear infestation", increase vigilance, strengthen prevention, and ensure personal safety.

First, stay away from the area marked by the "Bear Haunting Attention" warning sign, avoid wild mountaineering and hiking activities, and try to stay away from areas with few people activities in neighboring forest areas and mountains.

Second, early morning, evening and night are the periods when wild bears are more active. Please do not travel to remote areas. If you have to travel, it is recommended to travel together or take a vehicle as much as possible. Please carry bear spray with you when you walk.

If you find traces of activity such as footprints of wild bears, feces or food residues, please return quickly, do not stay. In case of bears, please treat calmly, do not scream or blindly escape, can slowly retreat, do not cause the attack and injury of the bear due to excessive behavior.

If an emergency occurs within our territory, please report the case to the Japanese police in a timely manner and contact the Chinese Consulate General in Sapporo or the Global Consular Protection and Emergency Service Hotline of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
