“Keep the beard, not allowed to attend!” during the visit of the U.S. Defense Secretary to South Korea, the ban on the remaining beard soldiers to participate in the U.S. military base activities in South Korea raised controversy

[Global Network Reporter Jiang Yiling] Comprehensive foreign media such as the US Capitol Hill and South Korea's Chosun Ilbo reported on October 29th that US Defense Secretary Hegseth will visit South Korea early next month, during which soldiers with beards will be prohibited from attending official activities hosted by him. Earlier, Hegseth put forward 10 new instructions at the U.S. General Conference, among which it was clear that soldiers were no longer allowed to grow beards in terms of appearance, and publicly criticized soldiers and generals who had gained weight.

He will visit South Korea from November 3 to 4, to attend the 57th Korean-American Security Conference, and plans to travel to the Hampshire military camp in the city of Pyongyang to sympathize with Korean-American officials.

According to a report on the U.S. military website "Task and Purpose" on the 28th, the 51st Fighter Wing at Osan Air Force Base in South Korea recently sent an email to soldiers informing them of the troop exchange activities held at Humphreys Barracks in Hegseth, "personnel holding shaving exemption certificates are not allowed to participate." An Air Force official confirmed the authenticity of the above email.

According to the Chosun Ilbo, it is reported that this regulation caused dissatisfaction among some soldiers in Humphreys Barracks. There are objections that this practice "discriminates against soldiers who must grow beards for medical or religious reasons".

Earlier, the U.S. military generals' conference convened by Hegseth was held on September 30th at the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia. In terms of strengthening physical fitness standards and tests, Hegseth said that soldiers engaged in combat-related occupations must take physical fitness tests according to male standards, and their scores must reach 70% or above. In terms of appearance, Hegseth announced that beards were no longer allowed, and criticized fat soldiers and generals.
