US Media: Research shows that China is "approaching" the United States in the global scientific field and will become a leader in many fields

[Global Network Reporter Li Sa] Bloomberg reported on the 28th that after analyzing nearly 6 million research papers, Chinese scientists have dominated nearly half of the Sino-US scientific cooperation projects. This shift highlights China's growing influence in setting the global research agenda. China is expected to lead the world in science.

The study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, shows that 45% of Chinese scientists will hold leadership roles in joint Sino-US research projects in 2023, compared with 10% in 2010. If this trend continues, China will achieve a balanced scientific research leadership with the United States in 2027 or 2028, that is, both sides will play an equally important leadership role in joint research.

The researchers say the study provides a way to look at China's growing leadership in international science by "focusing on the changing power position of China scientists in transnational collaboration." The results show that China is no longer just "producing" more scientific results, but is also "leading" the production process of these results.

In eight of the 11 key areas identified by the U.S. National Science Foundation, including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, energy and material science, Chinese researchers are expected to a leading position equal to the United States in these areas by 2030.

Bloomberg reported that at the time of the publication of this research result, American scientific research institutions are facing the "most serious turmoil" in decades. The U.S. government slashed its budget and carried out mass layoffs at federal scientific research institutions, triggering an exodus of American researchers.
