US media: A truck carrying monkeys in Mississippi rolled over and the experimental monkeys escaped

According to several US media reports, on October 28 local time, a truck carrying monkeys on Mississippi Interstate 59 crossed side, causing the carried monkeys to escape. The local police announced that the remainder of the escaped monkeys, except one, had been "shoot" and warned that the monkeys were "aggressive".

It is understood that this truck is carrying rhesus monkeys. This monkey usually weighs around 16 pounds (about 7.7 kilograms) and is one of the most widely used animals in medical research worldwide. These monkeys were originally kept at the National Biomedical Research Center of Tulane University in New Orleans, which often provides primates to scientific research institutions for research. It is unclear who is transporting the monkeys and where their destination is.

Local police initially called the monkeys carrying "diseases including herpes", but Tulane University called the monkeys "non-contagious" and said it was cooperating with local law enforcement. Staff from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries are also on the scene.
