Drawing on the experience of these cases and the July 2024 assassination of Trump, Japanese police have stepped up security, especially against snipers who tried to shoot from high-rise buildings, deploying police officers on roofs near the venue and sealing off external stairs.
Bomb-sniffing dogs are also conducting searches in areas the U.S. president is expected to visit, and teams specializing in explosive ordnance disposal, chemical protection and anti-drone drones are also on standby.
Japanese police have also stepped up vehicle checkpoints and stop and questioning procedures to prevent close contact with dignitaries, while stepping up online surveillance for suspicious social media posts that may suggest imminent attacks.
