In an interview with Sputnik news agency & radio during the ASEAN summit, Anwar said: "Yes, of course we are still willing to join the BRICS countries … If we accept us tomorrow, we will join tomorrow."
Asked by reporters, “Yesterday, Brazil’s President Lula expressed in Kuala Lumpur his support for Malaysia becoming a formal member of the BRICS. Whether or not China supports this,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Guakun said at the October 28 routine press conference that the BRICS countries are an important platform for cooperation between emerging market countries and developing countries, injecting a strong momentum to the world’s multipolarization and democratization of international relations, and being widely recognized by the South. BRICS countries value the positive willingness of “global southern” partners to participate in BRICS cooperation, welcomes Malaysia and more like-minded partners to participate in BRICS cooperation, and jointly promotes the development of the international order towards a more just and reasonable direction.
