Amazon says it will cut 30,000 employees

U.S. media on October 27, that the global e-commerce giant Amazon expects to launch a major job cuts program in the near future, involving about 30,000 jobs.

U.S. media citing informed persons reluctant to disclose their names that Amazon is expected to formally notify employees by email on 28th.

Amazon is the second largest private employer in the United States, with a total of more than 15.4 million employees worldwide as of the end of the second quarter of this year, mostly warehousing workers, with about 350,000 employees.

Since 2022, Amazon has carried out numerous cuts and more than 270,000 employees have been dismissed.

Industry insiders believe that the rise of generative artificial intelligence is reshaping the workforce structure. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said in June this year that as the company accelerates the adoption of artificial intelligence technology, the company will need fewer people to do some of its current jobs and more people to take on new types of jobs. "Over the next few years, this is expected to reduce the total number of employees of the company."
