Myanmar's KK Park fell into chaos after the clearance: thousands of escapees crossed the river into Thailand, some drowned, and some voluntarily engaged in electronic fraud

Recently, Myanmar KK Park has become a global focus. According to Xinhua Agency quoted Myanmar's official media "Myanmar Global New Light" as a report on October 20, the Myanmar Defense Forces recently launched a cleanup operation against fraud parks in the country's border areas. According to reports, since early September, the Myanmar Defense Forces have continued to carry out clean-up operations on the Myanmar side of the Burmese border. During this operation, the Myanmar Defense Force seized 30 sets of "Star Chain" receivers and accessories in the KK Park in Kayin State, searched more than 100 buildings, and found 2198 people involved in fraud and gambling. The Myanmar Defense Force will continue to make every effort to carry out cleanup operations in border areas.

Some analysts believe that the recent series of raids by the Myanmar government are aimed at showing the international community the authorities' efforts to combat cybercrime. Behind this clean-up operation, there is also external pressure.

"In the past,(KK Park) was not an area controlled by the Burmese government forces. It was either the territory of local armed forces or an area controlled by some anti-government armed forces. Now it is taken over by the government forces." On October 27, Zhang Heng (pseudonym), an insider close to the KK Park, told Chao News that the core reason why the government army took the initiative to crack down on electric fraud was that the KK Park was notorious and had great influence in the local area."In addition, it has become involved with 'Star Chain', and public opinion in the international community has put pressure on the Myanmar government."

It is noteworthy that on October 21, local time, in response to the use of "Star Chain" equipment in the fraud park, Lauren Dreier, vice president of Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX), said on social media that the company has identified more than 2500 "Star Chain" equipment around the Myanmar fraud park and rendered them inoperable. Dreier made it clear in his post that the company "proactively identified" and made these devices unusable in "around suspected fraud centers" in Myanmar.

Mr. Zhang revealed that the K.K. park after the operation did not actually show an orderly situation of "strict electricity fraud", but instead fell into the open doors of the chaos park, some head of the electronic fraud companies had long escaped, and these companies escaped a thousand employees around. "and those who escaped from the park, flooded to the border of Thailand. According to public reports, as of October 25, thousands of electronic fraud related persons have entered the territory of Thailand across the Moï River, some escaped in the river.

According to the latest media reports, Thailand’s security agencies have set up four temporary shelters in border Mekso County, and as of the evening of October 23, more than 800 foreigners had been accommodated, close to full, but the number of shelters is expected to continue to increase.

Savant, deputy governor of Daesh, Thailand’s western border province, said Thailand’s immigration police are cooperating with the military special forces to provide assistance in accordance with humanitarian procedures and to identify those who are suspected of fraud or trapped as victims of trafficking, if not victims, could be prosecuted for illegal border crossing. The Thai authorities have also prepared additional detention spaces to prevent existing space shortages, and border forces have also strengthened their police forces and worked closely with local security authorities to maintain order on the Thai border.

Official figures released earlier by Thailand show that Thailand has arrested 677 people who crossed the border into Thailand, including 618 men and 59 women, from different countries such as the Philippines, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Kenya, Vietnam and Indonesia.

"All Thai military police were mobilized and waited on the other side of the river. They would arrest them as soon as they came and then send them to the local immigration bureau." Zhang Heng confirmed this situation. He further explained: "The Thai military can provide protection for the real victims. However, after investigation, it was found that most of them were not victims. They came voluntarily to commit electric fraud. These people will be detained and then subjected to repatriation procedures."

However, the scale of this evacuation may far exceed the public data of "thousands of people". "There were originally thousands of people in the park, but more people actually moved in advance to the park that had not been hit yet." Zhang Heng added that among these people who "spontaneously escaped", they were basically willing to engage in fraud."They are afraid of being arrested by the Burmese government forces and of accepting legal sanctions." Zhang Heng said that the Myanmar military had bombed the KK Park, and even "bodies surfaced" on some escape routes."It may be an accident caused by panic escape."

According to media reports, after leaving the park, some people tried to enter Thailand from the Moi River by boat or swimming. Some fugitives drowned in the rapids of the Moi River; others fled deep into the town of Myowadi rather than heading to Thailand for fear they might be deported and face severe punishment. In addition, taxi fares from the village where KK Park is located to Miawadi Town have doubled, and accommodation and hotels in Miawadi Town have become crowded. Unlike previous crackdowns, the Myanmar military did not involve large-scale detentions.
