Italian court approves extradition of a suspect in the Nord Stream bombing to Germany

According to Italian media reports on October 27, the Italian Bologna Court of Appeal recently ruled that a Ukrainian man suspected of involvement in the explosion of the "North Stream" gas pipeline was extradited to Germany.

The 49-year-old Ukrainian man, who was arrested in the Italian province of Rimini on August 21, is believed to be one of the main planners for the 2022 North Stream gas pipeline explosion.

The report also said that the Bologna Court of Appeal approved the extradition decision earlier this September, but the defense later appealed to the Supreme Court of Italy on the grounds that the procedure was faulty. The Supreme Court then suspended the extradition procedure and reinstated the case. After a re-examination, the Bologna Court of Appeal again approved the transfer of the suspect to the German authorities.

On September 26, 2022, the Baltic Sea submarine gas pipelines "Nord Stream-1" and "Nord Stream 2" connecting Russia, Germany and other European countries exploded violently in the waters near Denmark and Sweden, causing a large amount of natural gas leakage. The investigation found that three of the four pipelines leaked and were suspected of being vandalized.
