Ministry of Foreign Affairs: China has always firmly supported Zimbabwe in opposing external interference and pursuing the path of independent development

On October 27, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jianquan presided over a routine press conference. Reporters asked: October 25 is the “counter-sanctions day” defined by the South African Development Community, and Zimbabwe hosts a “counter-sanctions day” anniversary event, urging the West to immediately and unconditionally lift illegal and unfair sanctions against the country.

In this regard, Guo Jiakun said that the 39th Southern African Development Community Summit in 2019 designated October 25 as the "Anti-Sanctions Day" and called on some Western countries and organizations such as the United States to lift illegal sanctions against Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe holds an event to commemorate the anniversary of "Anti-Sanctions Day", and China expresses its support for this.

The long-standing illegal sanctions imposed by a handful of Western countries against Zimbabwe, serious violations of Zimbabwe’s national sovereignty, undermining the development rights of the people of Zimbabwe, hindering efforts to deepen cooperation and common development in South Africa, undermining international fairness and justice, are typical hegemonic acts. China has always firmly supported Zimbabwe’s opposition to external interference and its independent development path, and is willing to work with African countries and the international community to support Zimbabwe’s independence and sovereignty, stability and development.
