Trump: Russia's nuclear-powered cruise missile test is "unsuitable"

U.S. President Donald Trump said on October 27 that Russia's test of the "Haiyan" nuclear-powered cruise missile "is inappropriate".

Trump, who is on a visit to Asia, told accompanying media on U.S. presidential aircraft Air Force One about the conflict in Ukraine that Russia should end the conflict in Ukraine, not missile tests.

According to a report by the TASS news agency on the 26th, Russian President Vladimir Putin recently said during a inspection of a command post of the Russian Joint Forces Cluster that the "Haiyan" nuclear-powered cruise missile had completed a "decisive test." When reporting to Putin, Chief of Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Gerasimov said that the Haiyan nuclear-powered cruise missile completed a 14,000-kilometer test flight on October 21 and did not reach the weapon's upper limit of capabilities.

On the 16th of this month, after talking with Putin, Trump announced that the two heads of state would meet in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, in the near future. However, he told the media at the White House on the 21st that the meeting plan had been put on hold. Trump also said on the 22nd that he had cancelled plans for the recent meeting between the two heads of state because "it felt that the timing was not right" and the current meeting "could not achieve the goal." Trump said on the 25th that he did not plan to meet with Putin until he believed Russia and Ukraine reached a peace agreement.
