Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the Russian Army Command on Sunday and met with Chief of Staff General Valery Grazimov and senior military commanders to hear reports on the situation along the contact line.
Ukrainian troops are besieged in the direction of Kupyansk and Krasnoamesk
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that as many as 5,000 Ukrainian soldiers were surrounded in the Kupyansk direction and about 5,500 in the Krasnoamysk direction.
Kupyansk is a city in the Kharkiv Oblast of Ukraine, about 100 kilometers east of Kharkiv; Krasnoamesk is located in the Russian People's Republic of Donetsk and is currently occupied by Ukraine troops.
In addition, a total of 31 Ukrainian battalions were surrounded in the Krasnoarmesk and Dimitrov areas.
Russia has made many military advances.
The military reported that Russian troops occupied a ferry crossing on the Oskol River, cutting off Ukrainian troops' movements.
Currently, the Russian army is completing the liberation of Yampol, and nearby Volchansk is said to have been 70% liberated. Peskov said that Putin congratulated the Russian army on its victory in Kupyansk and its achievements in completing combat missions in other regions.
Putin issued a number of instructions
During the talks, Putin ordered measures to ensure the surrender of besieged Ukrainian troops and minimize casualties. He pointed out that the Russian army has always been tolerant of the enemy and must continue to maintain this practice.
The president also urged the commanders to “do their utmost” to ensure the safety of civilians in the siege area, saying the Ukrainian military was using civilians as human shields.
At the same time, Putin urged the military to continue its military operations "according to the plan drawn up by the General Staff" and stressed that the security of the Russian military must always be a priority.
