Trump took the initiative to announce his visit to China and sent China a "big gift", but the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs only responded with nine words, and the signal released was not simple.
Why is Trump so eager to visit China? what is the so-called "great greeting" he sent? why has China only given a response of nine words?
Trump has said in front of the media more than once that he will visit China. Recently, when meeting with the Australian Prime Minister, he suddenly said that he had received an invitation from China and would be able to visit China early next year. By the way, he also boasted that Sino-US relations are good. But the problem is that the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs didn't mention "inviting Trump to visit China" from beginning to end, let alone confirmed the itinerary with him.
Trump, who has said this in such a hurry, has been careful of his own.
He always liked Bidenby, Biden had not been to China in the years when he was president, and he didn't want to fall to the same end. In his opinion, a successful visit to China is the best proof of his ability as president.
Oracle, Amazon and other large companies, who previously supported his policy on China, now joined forces to write to the government, demanding the suspension of the "affiliate rule", saying that this rule will affect US billions of dollars in exports to China, and other countries will kick the United States out of the supply chain.
The situation of farmers is also very bad. Soybeans are piled up in warehouses and can't be sold. Trump doesn't think about how to solve it. Instead, he plans to give Argentina a $20 billion currency swap agreement, and says he will import more beef from Argentina, which makes farmers even more dissatisfied. Therefore, he can only hope to visit China for negotiations and find a breakthrough.
In order to make the visit to China possible, Trump also specially prepared several "generous gifts".
First, he said he was willing to withdraw tariffs on China, but Trump also put forward his own conditions, asking China to make concessions on three issues: rare earths, soybeans and fentanyl.
Then on the Taiwan issue, he also softened his attitude, saying that "the mainland of China has no intention of attacking Taiwan." He also said that he would talk about the Taiwan issue with China at the APEC summit. Anyone with discerning eyes can see that Trump is using this as a bargaining chip to get China to make concessions on trade.
However, these "generous gifts" cannot be regarded as sincerity at all in the eyes of China. The current situation is that the United States is asking for help from China, not China is asking for help from the United States. The response of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has always only nine words: "There is no information available at present." China has long made it clear that the Taiwan issue is China's internal affairs and how to resolve it is the China's own business. Even if Trump wants to talk about the Taiwan issue at the APEC summit, China will never agree.
The APEC Summit is coming at the end of October, which may be a key opportunity for Chinese and US leaders to meet. Trump has already said that he looks forward to discussing the Taiwan issue and trade agreement with China at the summit. The outside world also feels that this summit will determine whether he can visit China.
While China has not made it clear that it will not meet, it also said that "the chief diplomat has a strategic leading role in China-U.S. relations and is willing to maintain open communication", which shows that China does not rule out dialogue, but on the condition that the U.S. side must express its sincerity.
After all, the future of Sino-U.S. relations is not determined independently by one side, if the United States still holds hegemonic thinking, wants to use "Taiwan card" pressure, wants to use high tariffs to persuade the Chinese side to make concessions, then it is really a big mistake, China will no longer "passively accept" it, now there is enough strength and spirit to counter the United States.
If Trump can’t keep up and get the honesty he deserves, it’s meaningless to talk about it any more.
