Kurdish Workers' Party announces withdrawal of armed forces from Turkey

On Monday, the Kurdish Workers’ Party issued a statement.Withdraw all its armed forces from Turkey.

The PKK issued a statement saying that it is withdrawing all armed forces from Turkey that may trigger conflicts or be easily used by provocation, and is also taking corresponding measures for locations along the border with similar risks.

Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party spokesman Emel Çelik said on social media that removing the Kurdish Workers’ Party’s remaining forces in the country, as well as its armed and illegal organizations in areas such as Iraq and Syria, and continuing to advance its disarmament process, remains the core theme of the “Terrorism-Free Turkey” process.

The Kurdish Workers’ Party, founded in 1979, sought to establish an independent state by force in the Kurdish settlements on the border of Turkey with Iraq, Iran and Syria and was classified by Turkey as a terrorist organization. In March this year, the Kurdish Workers’ Party announced a ceasefire and responded to the call of its imprisoned leader Abdullah Öcalan to drop arms and dissolve. On May 12, the Kurdish Workers’ Party issued a statement announcing the dissolution and the end of the armed struggle. The first members of the Kurdish Workers’ Party disarmed on July 11, marking the start of the organization’s disarmament process.
