The Iraqi Ministry of Petroleum said in a statement that the fire was caused by a gas leak from an old pumping system at the Zubair reservoir, adding that such accidents often take time to get fully controlled. Officials said some of the wounded were seriously burned, the situation is critical, and the number of deaths could rise further.
