Trump said that his relationship with Putin "has always been very good", but the recent situation is "very disappointing". He thought he could solve the Russia-Ukraine issue before "achieving peace" in the Middle East.

On the 16th of this month, after a phone call with Putin, Trump announced that the two heads of state would meet in Budapest, Hungary in the near future. But he told reporters at the White House on the 21st that the meeting plan was put on hold. Trump also said on the 22nd that he had cancelled the recent meeting plan between the two heads of state because he "felt the timing was wrong" and the current meeting "could not achieve the goal".

Russia: Very close to reaching a diplomatic solution

Western sanctions against Russia.
