Trump threatens to impose another 10% tariff on Canada

Xinhua Agency, New York, October 25th. US President Trump said on the 25th that due to the TV advertisement in Ontario, Canada, targeting the United States 'tariff increase, he intends to impose a 10% tariff on goods imported from Canada on top of existing tariffs.

On the same day, Trump posted on the social media platform "Real Social" that this advertisement should be removed immediately, but it continued to be broadcast during the Major League Baseball Finals on the evening of 24th. "Because they (Canada) seriously distorted the facts and took hostile actions, I will increase the tariff on Canada by 10% on the current basis".

According to U.S. media reports, the annoying Trump ad cited a speech by former U.S. President Reagan criticising the high tariffs harm the U.S. economy, prompting Trump to suddenly halt trade talks with Canada on the night of 23rd. Ontario Governor Doug Ford wrote on social media on 24th that he would withdraw the ad after this weekend.

Trump previously complained that the ad attempted to influence the U.S. Supreme Court before hearing a verbal debate in early November. The U.S. Supreme Court is rapidly reviewing the legitimacy of most tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, scheduled for a verbal debate in the first week of November. According to U.S. media, this will be the first time the Supreme Court has ruled the legitimacy of its main policy after Trump returned to the White House and is expected to determine the fate of the tariff policy.
