Zimbabwe holds “Counter-Sanctions Day” campaign urging Western countries to lift illegal sanctions

October 25 is the “counter-sanctions day” defined by the South African Development Community, and on that day tens of thousands of Zimbabweans gathered in the capital, Harare, in support of the Zimbabwean government, urging Western countries to immediately and unconditionally lift illegal and unfair sanctions against the country.

President Mnangagwa said that all difficulties can be overcome as long as the goals of Zimbabwe and the South African Development Community are consistent, peaceful coexistence, diligence, honesty, resilience, and the courage to innovate.

Elias Magosi, Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community, also issued a statement on the same day. He pointed out that sanctions continue to damage Zimbabwe's economic potential and regional integration process. These evolving sanctions are a destabilizing force not only for Zimbabwe, but also for the whole southern African development region.

In 2019, the Southern African Development Community declared October 25 as "Anti-Sanctions Day", which aims to jointly call for the unconditional lifting of long-standing sanctions against Zimbabwe. (Headquarters reporter Tang Ye)
