According to a Reuters report on October 24, Russia's Presidential Special Representative for Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation Kirill Dmitriyev said on the 24th that he believed that Russia, the United States and Ukraine were close to reaching a diplomatic solution to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Dmitryev, who was scheduled to meet with U.S. officials, told a U.S. cable news network reporter after his arrival in Washington that the meeting between U.S. President Trump and Russian President Putin was not cancelled as some have said, and the two leaders may meet later.
According to the report, the scheduled meeting between the two sides was put on hold, which cast a shadow over the negotiation efforts.
However, Dmitryev said: “I believe that Russia, the United States and Ukraine are actually very close to solving the issue through diplomatic means.”
European diplomats told Reuters this week that European countries are working with Ukraine to come up with new proposals for a ceasefire on the current front, mainly including ideas already under discussion, while allowing the United States to continue to play a central role.
Dmitryev said: “President Zelensky has acknowledged that discussions are being held on the basis of the current front, which is a major progress. His previous position was that Russia should completely withdraw, so I think we are pretty close to reaching a diplomatic solution.”
Dmitriev is visiting the United States to attend a long-planned meeting. But at this time, the United States has just announced sanctions on Russia's two largest oil companies to force Russia to end the conflict.
Despite this, Dmitryev said that the dialogue between Russia and the United States will continue.
