The Ministry of Public Health and Disease Prevention of Chad said on October 24 that as of October 23, the current cholera outbreak in the country has caused 157 people to die. The Ministry of Health of Chad reported on the same day that as of October 23rd, a total of 2,792 cholera cases had been reported in Chad, including 157 deaths, including 69 community deaths. At present, the cholera epidemic is mainly prevalent in four provinces: Gaila, Sila, Wadayi and Hajar-Lamis. The ministry said it would organize emergency exercises for health delegations, train community health workers to strengthen grassroots epidemiological monitoring, send members of cholera management mechanisms to support and supervise interventions in pandemic and high-risk areas, and set up health checkpoints in some cities to prevent and curb the spread of the disease. According to previous reports from the Chade Ministry of Health, the cholera outbreak began in July, with the first cases in the Duji refugee camp in the Wadai province.The United Nations announced in early October that, based on case data, the potential disease death rate in the Chade outbreak was 6%, far above the 1% emergency critical point defined by the World Health Organization.
