Sudan's Rapid Support Forces announce control of central city

On October 25, local time, the Sudan Rapid Support Forces issued a statement announcing that they would take control of Bala, an important city in North Kordofan State in central Sudan, on the same day.

The statement said the Rapid Support forces launched a comprehensive assault on the Sudanese armed forces-controlled city of Bara on the same day, causing thousands of people to die and hundreds to be wounded, and took full control of Bara. The statement also said that re-control of Bara was an important step towards comprehensive control of the Cordoba region.

The city of Bara, located about 350 kilometers southwest of the capital of Sudan, Khartoum, is a hub for several main transport lines connecting Khartoum with the western Darfur region. Following the outbreak of the armed conflict in Sudan, the Rapid Support Forces have long held control of Bara. In September 2025, the Sudanese Armed Forces regained control of Bara from the Rapid Support Forces.

On April 15, 2023, an armed conflict broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Force in the capital Khartoum, and the fighting subsequently spread to other areas. The armed conflict that lasted for more than two years has killed nearly 30,000 people and displaced more than 12 million people. (General reporter Zhao Yuanfang)
