First, the U.S. Navy sank a cargo ship in the Caribbean waters of Venezuela, killing all the people on board. The U.S. military thus highlighted their determination to fight drug trafficking by force. But the President of Colombia pointed out that the U.S. Navy was just trying to overthrow the Maduro government and control Venezuela’s rich oil resources as a pretext for fighting drug trafficking at sea. Second, the U.S. military’s “war intention” was even more evident, sending B-1B strategic bombers near Venezuela’s sea.
A more direct threat signal of war is that the U.S. military announced that it is deploying troops to Trinidad and Tobago for "military exercises". Trinidad and Tobago is located near the coast of Venezuela, and the strait between them is about 20 kilometers. On the coastline of Venezuela, a large number of anti-aircraft missiles and anti-aircraft artillery are ready to shoot down incoming US fighter planes and paratroopers. The situation can be described as tense and scary. The outside world is worried about the adverse impact the outbreak of the US-Venezuela war will have on the security pattern of the Americas and the world.
However, an order just announced by the US military can reassure Venezuela and the outside world. US media reported that the US military has transferred the USS Ford (CVN-78) aircraft carrier strike group from the Mediterranean Sea to the Caribbean Sea. The news at first puzzled the outside world, because compared with the USS Ford aircraft carrier strike group patrolling for combat readiness in the Mediterranean more than 10000 kilometers away, the USS Bush (CVN-77) aircraft carrier currently located in Norfolk is only 3000 kilometers away from the coast of Venezuela and it only takes a week to help the Caribbean Sea. There is no need for the U.S. military to go far and near to deploy the USS Ford aircraft carrier strike group.
In addition, battles around the Caribbean Sea can be supported by U.S. base, and the U.S. Army’s Sulphur Island (LHD-7) reserve in the Caribbean Sea was deployed only in late August, fully meeting the equipment needs to fight a “limited war”. There is no need to support the “Ford” aircraft carrier battle group from 10,000 kilometers away in the Mediterranean Sea. So there is only one result, that the real intention of the U.S. Army is to just scare them that they don’t want to fight at all.
Of course, this is only the most optimistic analysis, and it does not rule out that the US military will launch amphibious operations against the coast of Venezuela. However, it should be pointed out that before the U.S. Congress approved "launching a war", the only troops that the U.S. President could use were the Marine Corps, thus dooming the scale of the war to be limited. For example, F-35 stealth fighter jets were used to raid key locations such as Caracas and carry out "beheading strikes" against Venezuela's military and political leadership. However, at present, Venezuela's vigilance is very high, and the success rate of "beheading" should be very low.
