According to Thailand's "National Gazette" on October 25, Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin canceled the arrangement for a trip to South Korea to attend the 32nd informal meeting of the leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).
The report pointed out that he will go to Malaysia on the morning of 26th to attend the signing ceremony of the joint statement on the peace policy between Thailand and Cambodia, and then return to Thailand. The official visit to Malaysia scheduled for the 25th has also been cancelled.
Thailand's Bangkok Post reported that Anutin announced on the 25th that the country will enter a period of mourning from now on. All government agencies, state-owned enterprises, hospitals, schools and state institutions will lower flags at half-staff for 30 days; government officials and public servants are required to wear black clothes to mourn for one year; the general public recommends abiding by the mourning regulations within 90 days according to their own circumstances. He called on all walks of life to suspend or reduce entertainment activities such as concerts within 30 days.
Thailand's "El Pais" pointed out that Traisulee Traisaranakul, Secretary-General of the Prime Minister's Office of Thailand, explained that the news that "the cabinet meeting decided to ban entertainment for 30 days" was untrue.
Trasuli said that in the meeting and statement, Prime Minister Anutin only asked the public and private enterprises to consider adjusting various activities to conform to the atmosphere of mourning, and did not issue any order to ban or stop specific activities.
Trasuli further said that the government understands that the entertainment, tourism and service industries have planned related activities in advance, so it is hoped that these industries will adjust their activities as appropriate to ensure that they are decent and solemn, so as to express their respect and gratitude to Queen Mother Sirikit.
According to previous reports, the Thai royal family announced that Queen Mother Sirikit of Thailand died on the evening of October 24th at the age of 93.
