Thai Prime Minister cancels attendance to informal APEC meeting

On October 25, Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin told the media after the end of the cabinet meeting on October 25, that Thailand has entered a period of mourning due to the death of his wife Poe Rigi. He has canceled the arrangements for a trip to Korea to attend the 32nd informal meeting of the leaders of the APEC.

According to the announcement issued by the Prime Minister's Office of Thailand, the Prime Minister is the chairman of the National Funeral Preparatory Committee. Anutin said that due to the need to stay in China to preside over funerals, the official visit to Malaysia scheduled for the 25th has also been cancelled. He will go to Malaysia on the morning of 26th to attend the signing ceremony of the joint statement on the peace policy between Thailand and Cambodia, and then return to Thailand. Other meetings of the ASEAN Summit and the APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting will be attended by Foreign Minister Sihasa Pongjige.

On the 25th, Anutin also announced that the nation had entered the mourning period. Government agencies, state-owned enterprises, hospitals, schools and state agencies had to halve the flag for 30 days; government officials and civil servants had to mourn for one year; and the general public recommended to abide by the mourning regulations within 90 days according to their circumstances.
