In an interview with U.S. cable news network after his visit to Washington, Dmitryev said the first Russian-dollar meeting "was not what President Trump called" cancelled, but was postponed, and may meet later.

On Monday, after a call with Putin, Trump announced that the two heads of state would soon meet in Budapest, the Hungarian capital, but he told reporters at the White House Oval Office that the meeting was postponed. On Tuesday, Trump said he had cancelled the recent meeting of the US-Russian leaders due to the “sense that the time was not right” and the current meeting “cannot reach the goal”.

After Trump announced the above decision, Dmitriev, who attended the last meeting between Russia and the United States, posted on social media that "preparations for the meeting arrangement are still going on".

On August 15, US President Trump (right) and Russian President Putin jointly attended a joint press conference after meeting at the Elmendov-Richardson Joint Military Base in Anchorage, Alaska.

Putin previously stated that when he and Trump spoke on the phone on the 16th, it was Trump who proposed to hold a meeting, and the venue was also Trump's suggestion to choose Budapest, the capital of Hungary. It would be a mistake to treat this meeting hastily without adequate preparation, making it unable to achieve the expected results.

Russia-US dialogue will not stop

On the day Trump confirmed the cancellation of the "Putters Conference", the United States announced sanctions on Russia's two largest oil companies.Putin said that the new sanctions imposed by the United States on Russia were intended to pressure, but would not have a major impact on the Russian economy.

In this regard, Dmitriev said that U.S. sanctions against Russia will only backfire and "make gasoline at American gas stations more expensive". However, he said that despite the twists and turns in bilateral relations, the Russia-US dialogue will not stop.

It is still unclear whether Dmitryev will be welcomed by Trump on his visit to the United States. Dmitryev has refused to reveal who he will meet on his visit to the United States. The U.S. Axios News website that Dmitryev will meet with U.S. President’s special envoy Steven Witkov in Miami on the 25th.

Since the Trump administration took office in January this year, the attitude toward Russia-Ukraine peace talks has changed again: from initially boasting to end the conflict in 24 hours, to subsequently claiming that the U.S. side will withdraw from the mediator, then saying "a joke". on August 15, Trump and Putin held a face-to-face meeting of U.S. Russian leaders in Alaska in the U.S. for the first time in more than 4 years, at the subsequent joint press conference, Putin said hopes that the agreement reached with Trump was "Ukraine's peace paving the way".

Earlier this year, Trump pressured Ukraine to make concessions on territorial issues to end the Ukrainian conflict, and in late September also declared that the Ukrainian side has the ability to “take back the whole of Ukraine.”When asked by reporters on the 17th of this month whether Ukraine needs to exchange territory for peace, Trump simply said: “No one knows,” he also ruled out the possibility of a recent tripartite meeting of US-Russian leaders.
