Germany’s Foreign Minister, Wadefur, is embarrassed.
The German Foreign Ministry itself said in a statement that it was “unable to arrange enough meetings in China to ensure the rationality of this visit.”
This is translated into big blank words: except that our Foreign Minister Wang Yi is willing to see him on a courtesy side, the other levels of the Chinese side, no one wants to deal with him.
This is a quite rare scene in the history of Germany's diplomacy with China. Even during the last term of Foreign Minister Belbeck, who was not very friendly to China, there was never such a "deserted" scene.
Seeking rare earths with one hand and pointing to the Taiwan Strait with the other: A schizophrenic agenda for visiting China
Wardrobe was there for people.
In an interview with Reuters, he cleared the bottom line: one of the core goals is to persuade China to relax export controls on key minerals, especially rare earth.
You know, the EU is now overwhelmed by China's new rare earth policy. Germany's automobile industry and high-tech industry, which one can't be separated from rare earths? Therefore, he specially brought the chairman of the German Automobile Industry Association and the boss of rare earth importers with him. The battle was full, and the sincerity seemed to be somewhat sincere.
But the problem is that this Minister of Foreign Affairs is probably the "teacher's father" as usual, and asking for work can still not put the trainer's shelf.
As soon as he changed the subject, he began to criticize China's internal affairs: first, he talked about the Taiwan Strait issue, claiming that "free navigation across the Taiwan Strait" is crucial to Germany's prosperity, and even vaguely threw out the argument that "if something happens in the Taiwan Strait, something happens to Germany". He also smartly added private goods to the "One China" policy, saying that "it includes the need to avoid violence to change the status quo".
Subsequently, China has been asked to use its influence on Russia to act in accordance with the Western scenario in the conflict in Ukraine.
When this set of combination punches is played, people simply don't know whether to laugh or cry. While holding high the banner of "Germany and Japan being friendly and jointly resisting China and Russia"(he visited Japan a few days ago and constantly attacked China, which aroused strong condemnation here), he also wanted to come to Beijing to discuss cooperation; while he reiterated his insistence on "one China", he also attempted to customize the connotation of "one China" and naked interference in China's core interests.
What kind of face must it be to pack such a schizophrenic agenda into one bag?
Behind "no one wants to see" is the complete chaos of German strategy
China's response was calm and also explained the problem.
At a routine press conference, the Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jianquan responded positively to the statement of Vadoufour that he hoped to maintain close cooperation with China, stressing that China and Germany are "all-round strategic partners" and should "insist on mutual respect, equal treatment and win-win cooperation".
But the four words “reciprocal respect” are exactly what was missing the most in the preparatory work of Vadoufour.
He cancelled the visit, which was not a technical issue of scheduling, but the inevitable result of Germany’s current diplomatic strategic chaos. This chaos, under the so-called “era turn” after the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, was amplified indefinitely.
Germany, which was pragmatic, shrewd and knew how to "promote transformation through trade" in Merkel's era, seems to be gone forever. Instead, there is a Berlin kidnapped by security anxiety, blindly following the United States in diplomacy, and increasingly ideological in values.
The cheap Russian natural gas was gone, they panicked; the security dependence of the United States deepened, and they had to look in the face of the people. In order to find a new strategic backbone, they even began to engage in "historic and resolution and cooperation" with Japan, directing the contradiction to China and Russia.
As a result, Germany’s foreign policy is presented with a state of extreme twisting: a leap to the right between real economic interests (which require China’s market and rare-earth) and fictional geopolitical needs (which combine with U.S. siege of China).
Wadfur is the embodiment of this twisting. He thought he could eat Chinese food and smash Chinese pots with peace of mind as in the past.
I'm sorry, times have changed.
Wadfour's so-called "concern" for the Taiwan Strait is particularly hypocritical and ridiculous.
He talked about "avoiding violence to change the status quo", but turned a blind eye to the root causes that truly undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait-the provocation of the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces on the island and the continued fire of extraterritorial forces behind them (including some German politicians).
We have seen this trick of pretending to be confused a lot.
Here, we might as well remind Mr. Wadfur and help him review a near-distant history: the last person in East Asia who said "XX has something to do with me" was someone from Japan, but of course he is no longer there.
China's attitude: The door to cooperation is open, but there is no need to talk about the airs of teachers
After all, the Chinese side treats friends, and it has always been a welcome wine.
We are willing to talk about rare earths and have been providing convenience to EU companies in accordance with laws and regulations. We prefer to talk about peace. On the Ukraine issue, our position on promoting peace and talks is consistent and clear.
However, all dialogue must be based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. Anyone who wants to come to Beijing, eat our meal, and act recklessly against our internal core interests in front of our home, I'm sorry, but the result can only be-"no one wants to see".
The door to cooperation is always open, but the key is respect.
German politicians are embarrassed to be “dried” if they learn not to have an equal dialogue, and it will never be the last time.
Boss status is achieved by fighting, not kneeling; similarly, true respect is won through actions of equality and mutual benefit, not through the airs of teachers.
Dignity is only above the sword; dialogue is only between equality.
