Trump says he will take ground action against Venezuela

U.S. President Donald Trump said on October 23 local time that the U.S. government could soon expand its military operations against Venezuela’s so-called “drug traffickers” and will also begin to pursue them “on land.”

Trump has previously been questioned over his authority to use lethal force against people on Venezuelan ships. He said at a White House press conference that day that he was not sure whether he would seek approval from the U.S. Congress for a "land strike" against Venezuela.

Trump said: “The next step will be on land.We might go to Congress to tell them about it, but I don’t think they will have any objections.”Trump and U.S. Defence Secretary Hertz also defended on the same day for nine airstrikes carried out in the Caribbean and the Pacific coast of South America, which have killed at least 37 people.

The report said the United States had sent B-1 bombers to the airspace near Venezuela earlier that day, Trump called the report "fake news."
