Fatah and Hamas hold talks in Cairo to discuss post-war arrangements in Gaza

On October 23, local time, delegations from the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) met in Cairo, Egypt, to discuss the overall situation in Palestine and the governance arrangements for the Gaza Strip after the war. The two sides reached a preliminary consensus on the second phase of the ceasefire agreement and intra-Palestinian coordination.

It is that the Hamas delegation is headed by a senior member of the Political Bureau, Khalil al-Hayya, and the Fatah side includes, in addition to Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh, the Director of the Palestinian Intelligence Agency, Majed Faraj.

According to a report in Israel's New Izvestia newspaper, a Fatah official revealed that the agenda of the meeting also included coordinating with Egypt the management of the Rafah crossing to ensure the smooth implementation of the ceasefire agreement and continue to ensure that humanitarian aid can enter Gaza Strip.

Another Fatah official criticized Israel for refusing to recognize Fatah as the legitimate ruling authority in Gaza through Yediot Ahronoth. "All Palestinians are basically divided into two main camps, either Fatah or Hamas. And we hope that with the coordination of the international community, Fatah can become the main body governing the Gaza Strip."

In addition, according to Qatar Peninsula TV, on the day before the meeting (October 22), the Director-General of Egyptian Intelligence, Abbas Kamel, had a meeting with Hossein Sheikh, who reiterated that the two sides will continue to push for the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and coordinate the next phase of political dialogue to create conditions for internal reconciliation in Palestine.
