International Paralympic Committee: Russian athletes are not allowed to participate in 2026 Winter Paralympic Games

On the 23rd local time, the International Paralympic Committee confirmed to Russia's Tass news agency that Russian athletes will not be able to participate in the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Paralympics due to their inability to participate in the qualifying rounds on time. This Paralympic Games is scheduled to be held in Italy from March 6 to 15, 2026.

Andrew Parsons, president of the International Paralympic Committee, said that the current positions of the International Ski and Snowboarding Federation (FIS), the International Biathlon Union (IBU) and the World Curling Federation mean that Russian and Belarusian athletes cannot participate in the events they host, which also leads to their disqualification from participating in these events in the 2026 Winter Paralympics. Although the Russian and Belarusian teams can now participate in the Paralympic ice hockey event, it is already in the late stage of the qualifying tournament, and the list of six teams participating in the November Paralympic qualifying tournament has been confirmed.

It is reported that the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Paralympics include six major winter sports, namely Paralympic biathlon, Paralympic ice hockey, Paralympic snowboarding, Paralympic cross-country skiing, Paralympic alpine skiing and wheelchair curling.

In September, the International Paralympic Committee General Assembly voted to fully restore the membership and rights of the Paralympic Committee of Russia and Belarus.
