According to Xinhua news agency, Colombian President Petro repudiated on the 22nd US President Trump's new round of speech attacks on him, calling it "crab", said he would resort to legal procedures to defend his reputation.
On the 22nd, Trump called Petro a "villain", said he was a "drug leader", and threatened to "take very severe action" against Petro and Colombia, saying that he had cut off all aid to Colombia.
Petro responded on social media on the same day: "In response to defamation charges filed against me by senior officials in the United States, I will defend legally in the U.S. judicial system through U.S. lawyers."
Daniel Garcia-Peña, Colombia's ambassador to the United States, told the media on the 22nd that Trump's threat was "intolerable" and that the US accusations were "groundless" and were putting the two countries "more than 200 years of historic relationship" at risk.
Colombia has been a traditional ally of the United States in Latin America, but relations between the two countries have recently tightened. The United States has recently attacked several vessels in the Caribbean, including Colombian vessels, to “fight drug trafficking.”
