Chinese Embassy in New Zealand: Beware of illegal actors pretending to send consular staff for telecommunications fraud

Recently, we have also received a number of new Chinese citizens calls reflecting that there are illegal actors pretending to be my foreign consulate staff calling the parties, especially in new students, lying that someone has used the party's personal information to handle a bank card or mobile card, the bank card or mobile card is suspected of illegal activities; or that there are important documents, packages need the parties to receive the consulate, etc. For this, our school once again solemnly reminded the majority of new foreigners and international students:

The Chinese embassy abroad will not request the parties to receive important documents or packages by telephone, will not tell the parties to be investigated for alleged illegal crimes, will not require the parties to provide personal bank account information or provide guarantees, will not issue electronic arrest certificates, detention certificates, court passes, etc., will not transfer the phone to the domestic public prosecution law agency.

2. With the rapid development of information technology, especially AI technology, telecommunications fraud methods are full of diverse, highly simulated and confusing. Some criminals use technical means to simulate telephone numbers of foreign embassies and consulates to commit fraud.

Third, in the event of suspicious calls or information, be careful, do not trust, and immediately verify through official channels. If unfortunately you are cheated, should first report the case to the local police.
