Britain imposed sanctions on 11 Chinese companies, China has responded

On the day after the European Union shouted for "United China", the United Kingdom quickly announced sanctions on 11 Chinese companies, spanning ports, petrochemicals, electronics and other industries.

The list of sanctions can be called "a pot of mess". There are energy companies, there are technology companies, and even the national pipeline group responsible for the reception of natural gas. The reason given by the UK is even more speculative, saying these companies "support Russia" and "destroy Ukraine's stability", but can not bring any substantive evidence, only to "possibly related" to them.

Even more intriguing is the time. Less than a week before the UK started, China just introduced new rules on rare-earth technology export controls. The EU then pulled the United States to hold the G7 meeting, forcing China to withdraw the decision. The UK operation, living out of the EU directive is the "rapid vanguard". Then the question comes: Britain so hardly sanctioned Chinese companies, who will hurt?

The answer may be unexpected, and it is likely that Britain itself will suffer in the end. Because the real "talker" of the global rare earth supply chain is China. Data show that 48% of the world's rare earth reserves are in China, 69% of its production is in China, and more importantly, more than 90% of the core technologies of rare earth smelting and separation are in China's hands.

70% of the rare earth in the EU is directly imported from China; California in the United States, 80% of the rare earth is to be shipped to China for processing; Japan's advanced magnets, the final refining process must also be completed in China.

These Chinese companies sanctioned by the UK are not directly related to rare earths on the surface, but in fact they have hidden mysteries. The sensors and bearings produced by those electronic companies are the key supporting facilities of rare earth magnetic materials; Energy companies are involved in the transportation of rare earth raw materials. Britain wants to "besiege Wei and save Zhao", but the result may hurt its own enterprises first. On the same day, the Chinese Embassy in the UK made a tough response, pointing out that the British side's actions "had no basis in international law" and demanding "immediate correction of mistakes and lifting sanctions".

In fact, this is not the first time that the UK has engaged in the "sanctions drama", but this time the Chinese side's "counterfeit cards" are more significant: the first is rare-earth cards. If the UK is fascinated, China can completely tighten the British rare-earth technology licenses, so that the UK's automotive and wind power industry faces the "crisis of discontinuation". The second is the trade card. China is one of the UK's largest importing source countries, the British market dependency on "Made in China" far exceeds imagination. The third is the compliance card. China can join other victims, filing lawsuits internationally, stamping the British "rule of law disguise".

Ironically, this "confrontation drama" lit by the European Union, the actors have long been in great turmoil. The EU pulled the United States to "joint pressure", but the United States has long been soft, before threatening to impose 100% tariffs on China, as a result of the US stock fell, in a few days to change the slogan "not necessarily implemented".

Why will the U.S. “confess”? because China’s rare-earth control is never “one-stop”. emergency medical, semiconductor research and development of these humanitarian and civilian needs, China will all the way. but you want to use our technology in military?

This time, Britain’s “out-of-the-head bird” said that it wanted to please the United States and shift domestic economic contradictions. But this “harmful and selfish” path is destined for nothing. Next, if Britain does not lift the wrong sanctions, China’s countermeasures will surely come; if the EU still follows the G7 to engage in “collective pressure”, it will ultimately only eat the bitter fruit of the supply chain rupture. In the face of absolute technological and resource advantages, any extreme pressure is in vain.

If you cooperate, you have to obey the rules; Provocation will be countered. This class, some people, really should make up for it!
