The door of the US-Russian leader’s meeting in Budapest has not yet been completely closed.
On October 22, local time, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban said on social media that the preparations for the Budapest Peace Summit are still ongoing, and the exact date is unclear.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Sijardo will meet with U.S. Secretary of State Rubio in Washington on the 22nd to discuss the details of the Budapest Peace Summit and possible dates.
According to the World Wide Web citing Reuters, Orban posted on social media: "Szijjarto is in Washington. Preparations for the peace summit are still going on, and the specific date has not yet been determined. When the time is right, we will hold (this meeting)."
According to @CCTV International News, on the 22nd local time, when talking about the meeting between Russian President Putin and US President Trump, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Peskov said that the specific time of the meeting has not yet been determined.
Peskov pointed out that this meeting requires full preparation. When asked about Trump's remarks about his reluctance to waste time, Peskov responded: "No one wants to waste time, whether it's President Trump or President Putin."
On the 16th local time, U.S. President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin had a long phone call and later announced that the two would meet in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, in the near future.
However, on the 21st, Trump said that he had not yet made a decision on the meeting with Putin. He said the scheduled meeting was put on hold because he didn't want to "waste time" and "I don't want to have a pointless meeting." Earlier in the day, senior White House officials said there were no plans to schedule a meeting between Trump and Putin at this time.
According to reports, Trump's decision to postpone the meeting in Budapest was made after a call between U.S. Secretary of State Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov on 20 September.
