Hungarian Prime Minister Orban: Preparations for Trump-Putin meeting continue

According to Reuters, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban said on 22 local time that the preparations for the planned meeting between U.S. President Trump and Russian President Putin in Hungary's capital Budapest are still ongoing.

"(Hungarian Foreign Minister) Sijardo is in Washington. Preparations for the peace summit are still continuing and a specific date has not yet been determined. When the time is right, we will have (this meeting)." Orban said in a post on the social platform Facebook.

According to Reuters, Trump said on Monday that his scheduled meeting with Putin had been postponed because he did not want to “waste” the meeting.

According to the Associated Press, Trump's decision to postpone the Budapest meeting was made after a phone call between US Secretary of State rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov on the 20th. The Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement after the call saying that Lavrov and rubio had a "constructive discussion" on the same day around the consensus reached by the two heads of state in the previous telephone conversation. The two sides discussed specific measures that may be taken to implement the relevant consensus. However, the statement did not disclose further details.
