Bayer CEO Abel received an interview with 11Freunde, discussing questions and criticisms about his work.
There are critics that Bayern's lineup is too thin, and the league may not be strong next spring, what do you think?
“I can't agree with this view. At the beginning of the season, we had 22 players. After the return of Alfonso Davis, Musiara and Yoshi Ito, our lineup will reach 25 players. Although the number is small, it is very strong. When we look at new players, we also pay particular attention to their injury records, and what does a huge lineup mean if some players are always in a shortage? we also want to create opportunities for young players, and the club’s idea is to train young players while achieving success.”
Bayern also released three potential stars this summer: Ter, Aznu and Vannar...
“Bayern’s goal every year is to be champions and go further in the Champions League, and Conpani wants to develop young talent, but we have to make a choice, we can’t have the top players in each position with four to five young players, and in the key games, the more experienced players are more likely to put in place. So we deliberately chose 17-year-old Carl, Mike and 16-year-old Kiara, and we believe they have the greatest potential for development. Though Tel has been playing for Bayern for a while, he has never made a real breakthrough. Now we can get a considerable income through his transfer, which is why we made this decision.”
In the past, Bayern always had at least one blockbuster signing in the summer window
"Some of the top players will decide the future much later these days, and they need more time to think about whether to stay or leave as more and more international clubs are vying for them. Our goal is to accumulate funds and replenish our fixed deposit accounts while achieving competitive success.”
Henness has publicly advised you to complete the transfer plan as soon as possible.
“I also hope to complete the transfer as soon as possible, but the transfer market is unlikely to change. After signing Tower and Bishop and Dias, we basically completed lineup planning. Only when Coman wants to seize the chance to join Riyadh, we have to take action again.”
Has it been that you ever wanted to spend Coman’s transfer fee on signing a replacement?
“We do have an idea that if Coman leaves, we have the money to sign a new player. However, the club’s final decision is not to sign anymore, it can only be borrowed. But it’s not a fight between the board and management, it’s a completely objective decision, and we also support that decision.”
The transfer of Jackson.
"Two days before the transfer deadline, that is, on Saturday, Jackson was on his way to Munich. That afternoon, I had lunch with Freund before the Augsburg game, and the match between Chelsea and Fulham was being broadcast on TV. In the 14th minute of the game, I caught a glimpse of Delap having to leave because of serious injuries. At that moment, I knew Chelsea would call soon to stop the loan. As expected, immediately after the game in Augsburg, we started calling to explore solutions. Fortunately, Jackson made it clear that he wanted to join Bayern very much, so Chelsea began to use their network to find a replacement. The night before the transfer deadline day, Freund and I sat in Sebena's office and had not heard word that the transfer had finally been approved until 11pm. It was clear to us that if we wanted to sign another player, we had to fly him in the next morning for a medical. So we looked at each other and said: We can reach an agreement with Chelsea. This is the result of an effort by all parties. "
Hoeness said, Bayern is to the Champions League and Hoffenheim is to the Bundesliga. Is this right?
“At the moment we are trying to improve our score while achieving sports success, at the World Cup, we lost to Champions League Championship Paris with a weak gap, and recently in the Champions League, we defeated World Cup Championship Chelsea. I feel the atmosphere of the team is very positive, and after the return of Itou Yuan, Musiacha and Alfonso, I am very happy as a challenger to see what I can in the Championship.”
Henness, a 73-year-old member of the club’s supervisory board, publicly instructed the sports director how to work, is it annoying to you in private?
“I’ve known him for 35 years and I’ve witnessed how he’s done everything he can to push the club forward. I’ve been calling him frequently for petitions when I was in Manchester, and everything he’s recently said in the interview has also personally said to me, I’ll listen to his advice and of course I’ll also have my own ideas. Uli is always Uli, as I said, we’ve also talked about this situation in internal discussions and made necessary clarifications. At first, I thought stubbornly: I’m not sensitive. Later I realized that when I firmly believe something, I’ll show sensitivity, after all, I’m full of love for it. If I just do the way others tell me, I can’t do the best for the club I think I have my own ideas and I want to
