On October 22nd, Marseille Club of Ligue 1 officially announced that it would retire the No.30 jersey worn by Mandanda.
The 40-year-old French goalkeeper, who has played for Marseille twice and played for Marseille for a total of 14 seasons, announced his retirement this summer. In memory of the goalkeeper, the Marseille Club announced on its website that he has retired from the Marseille 30 shirt he used to wear.
Marseille Club Chairman Pablo Longoria said: “14 seasons, 613 games, 318 times as captain. A legend of Marseille. The club decided to hold a tribute ceremony to Le Havre (which is also his youth team) and permanently secure his 30th shirt. Mandanda’s name and career have become part of the history of the Marseille club.”
