Breaking-News >> WorldNews World Food Program: Food entering Gaza still falls far short of target
Abil Etfa, a spokesman for the Middle East at the World Food Programme, said on Monday that a ceasefire enables UN personnel to supply more food to Gaza, but that the number is still far below the target and more transit points need to be opened. Etfa said that the World Food Program currently supplies an average of 750 tons of food to Gaza per day, well below the target of about 2000 tons per day. WFP Press Officer for Middle East Affairs Abil Etfa:It is almost impossible for us to the goal of transporting 2,000 tons of food a day unless we can take advantage of all the transit points. We do not have a large-scale fleet to enter Gaza City or the northern area of Gaza, we have cleared the roads to the north, but we need these transit points open so that a large fleet can enter. Currently, only Kerem Shalom and Kysufim transit points are open in the Gaza Strip. The Palestinian Media Office for the Gaza Strip issued a statement on 21 October that only 986 humanitarian trucks have entered the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire came into force on 10 October, far below the expected 6,600. Local residents of Ahmed Abu Musallam:The situation has not changed fundamentally, on the contrary, some things have become worse. We cannot afford the cost of returning to our own homes, our current living conditions are very tough, and overall the situation is very difficult. There is no fresh food, no clean drinking water, no water at all.
